Family in Uganda with water filter system from The Clean Water Project charity team building event

Event Overview

Every year, millions of people around the world suffer from preventable diseases caused by contaminated water. For communities without access to clean drinking water, daily life is a constant struggle. Children walk miles to collect water that isn’t safe, and families face the risk of illness with every sip.

The Clean Water Project transforms this global issue into a hands-on, purpose-driven charity team building activity where you can make a real difference. Working together, participants build fully functional water filtration systems while blindfolded to simulate the challenges faced by those living without access to clean water. Each completed filter is donated to communities in Uganda and other developing regions, providing up to two years of clean, safe water for around 300 people.

This corporate charity team building activity combines practical problem-solving with empathy, emotional intelligence and teamwork, leaving every participant with a deep sense of purpose and pride. Each kit also includes a unique tracking ID, allowing teams to follow their filter’s journey and see it being used by the communities they have helped.

How It Works

  • The charity team building event begins with a moving introduction that connects your team’s efforts to the real-world water crisis. Participants see powerful images and videos of communities struggling without safe water and learn how their teamwork today will help change that reality.
  • Teams of 3–5 people receive their water filter kits, with all the components, tools and instructions needed to build two life-saving water filters: one household filter and one emergency filter.
  • Working together (sometimes blindfolded), participants assemble the filters, learning to communicate, trust and support one another. Our expert facilitators guide teams throughout the process, ensuring every participant is involved and inspired.
  • Once complete, each team tests their filters, adds their personal message and decorates the exterior, creating a human connection with the family who will receive it.
  • Every filter is inspected and given a unique tracking ID. Teams can photograph their code and later follow the journey of their filter to see where it’s delivered and who it’s helping.
  • All filters are distributed through our charity partner to communities in Uganda, providing clean water for up to 300 people per filter.
